As a homeschool family we are extremely blessed to be part of a wonderful community of like minded families in a tutorial setting. The best of both worlds really. The kids go once a week, sit in classes all day, and have the remaining 4 days to do their work at home. It is through this tutorial that our kids are also able to experience some of the traditional things they would if in a traditional school setting.
There is yearbook, student government, newspaper, fall Dance, community service projects, field day, class trips, and my personal favorite...PROM!!
This weekend Tyler attended his first prom. I get a lump in my throat all over again just typing it. You can only imagine the mess I was when I saw him step out of his room looking like this.
His dad and I are only left to wonder where on Earth the time has gone. It's crazy really. Feels like I just blinked and he is now almost grown. Did I mention he also just became a permitted driver in the state of Tennessee?! All in the same week! This is getting out of hand. Would someone stop time for me please?
The prom was held in a historical building on the grounds of a country club here in the Nashville area. The room itself was decoration enough. So much character. The rest of the prom committee and myself added a few extra touches though.
This group of kids is simply the best in my book. I love them all. From Senior to Freshman. They are smart, hysterical, unique, confident, inspiring, on fire for God, and such a joy to be around.
Don't be fooled by all that good character though....these kids know how to par...tayyyyyy!
In a good clean fun sorta way of course.
I don't know about you but the words "good" and "clean" could not be used to describe my own prom experience.
I think that is why I am so in awe of them. They are defying the standards the world has placed on them...defining their own...and having a blast doing it.
If you have never done the Cha Cha Slide or the Cupid Shuffle you are missing out.
In fact a few of us moms were just itching to join them on the dance floor but we refrained.
I am sure we saved some money on future therapy for them.
Most impressive is their friendships.
So genuine.
Regardless of age or grade these kids love each other and cheer each other on in every endeavor they set out to accomplish.
Seniors dancing with Freshman. Can you imagine?! So refreshing.
Remember Rachel? The gal with the million dollar smile? She asked Tyler to escort her for the Senior walk this year.
So sweet.
We spent the night partying like rock stars and consuming copious amounts of coffee and bacon at IHOP.
Literally saw the sun coming up on our way home.
I am still recovering.
The folks at IHOP may be too.
But I would not have missed this precious moment in my son's life for anything.
Not even sleep.
