Tyler attended his Sophomore prom this weekend.
He was dreamy.
Honestly, just when I think he's about as handsome as a young man can get, he goes and gets even handsomer.
Ashten was stunning.
They clean up pretty nice I think.
Last year they went as really good friends.
This year his intentions are a little different so he asked her father's permission to give her flowers and escort her to prom.
This courtship thing really is a beautiful thing to witness.
Everyone looked amazing.
Including my friend's daughter Autumn.
Remember Autumn?
I was privileged enough to watch and capture her vow to remain pure till marriage.
She was a snaggle toothed lanky little girl when we met her family 6 years ago.
Ahem...not so much now.
Such a beautiful young woman...inside and out.
There is a nasty rumor going around that homeschoolers aren't very social.
No fun at all.
Downright prudish.
I beg to differ.
I wish there had been homeschoolers at my prom.
A few of our Seniors.
Senior dance.
With their parents.
::gasp::
Imagine that...these kids actually enjoy not that they have a choice in the matter having their parents involved in this special night.
Teens really do thrive within loving not suffocating/ too restrictive boundaries.
One of our Juniors even invited her dad to be her date for the night.
He thought she was joking.
Nope.
He tore up the dance floor with his daughter till the very end.
He gets dad of the year for sure.
Although I'm pretty sure I saw him bust out the robot once.
I snapped this picture on our way home.
Yes, I did it again ..stayed up all. night. long. with these kiddos at prom after party.
Loved every stinkin minute of it too.
Although I think my body wishes my brain would get the memo that I am now 36 years old.
Tuxedo Rental: $160
Prom Tickets: $100
Watching the sun come up with my sixteen year old: Priceless.

Homeschool Prom {Debunking the socialization myth one "Cha Cha Slide" and "Cupid Shuffle"at a time}
As a homeschool family we are extremely blessed to be part of a wonderful community of like minded families in a tutorial setting. The best of both worlds really. The kids go once a week, sit in classes all day, and have the remaining 4 days to do their work at home. It is through this tutorial that our kids are also able to experience some of the traditional things they would if in a traditional school setting.
There is yearbook, student government, newspaper, fall Dance, community service projects, field day, class trips, and my personal favorite...PROM!!
This weekend Tyler attended his first prom. I get a lump in my throat all over again just typing it. You can only imagine the mess I was when I saw him step out of his room looking like this.
His dad and I are only left to wonder where on Earth the time has gone. It's crazy really. Feels like I just blinked and he is now almost grown. Did I mention he also just became a permitted driver in the state of Tennessee?! All in the same week! This is getting out of hand. Would someone stop time for me please?
The prom was held in a historical building on the grounds of a country club here in the Nashville area. The room itself was decoration enough. So much character. The rest of the prom committee and myself added a few extra touches though.
This group of kids is simply the best in my book. I love them all. From Senior to Freshman. They are smart, hysterical, unique, confident, inspiring, on fire for God, and such a joy to be around.
Don't be fooled by all that good character though....these kids know how to par...tayyyyyy!
In a good clean fun sorta way of course.
I don't know about you but the words "good" and "clean" could not be used to describe my own prom experience.
I think that is why I am so in awe of them. They are defying the standards the world has placed on them...defining their own...and having a blast doing it.
If you have never done the Cha Cha Slide or the Cupid Shuffle you are missing out.
In fact a few of us moms were just itching to join them on the dance floor but we refrained.
I am sure we saved some money on future therapy for them.
Most impressive is their friendships.
So genuine.
Regardless of age or grade these kids love each other and cheer each other on in every endeavor they set out to accomplish.
Seniors dancing with Freshman. Can you imagine?! So refreshing.
Remember Rachel? The gal with the million dollar smile? She asked Tyler to escort her for the Senior walk this year.
So sweet.
We spent the night partying like rock stars and consuming copious amounts of coffee and bacon at IHOP.
Literally saw the sun coming up on our way home.
I am still recovering.
The folks at IHOP may be too.
But I would not have missed this precious moment in my son's life for anything.
Not even sleep.
